She's got videos on Youtube and I want to make everything she put up. I just have to get off of my lazy butt and go to the store. Sigh...

Nutshell, Nutcase, whatever.

First of all, isn't this the effin' worst thing to see first thing in the morning?
So yeah. That's how my morning started. The next thing I did was get all of the cleaning chemicals out from under the bathroom sink and drench this mofo. Laugh all you want, but I just want to say that even elephants are scared of these suckers. And for good reason.

The past two weeks have been currrraaaazzzzyyyyy. Midterms finished, so I had a lot of time for research. My research partner and I designed and built a small chamber for holding biological solutions, which would be frozen in a controlled manner and charged with electrodes. It's a simple design, but here's what we came up with:

Here's a test where we froze the chamber with distilled water inside. You can see the solid-liquid interface in the picture. The rims on the top and bottom aluminum caps are for the electrodes to clip onto, and the cooling plate is at -20*C.
The application? Cancer research. In cryoablation, a treatment method that freezes a tumor in cycles, sometimes cancerous cells at the edge of the tumor don't freeze completely and they aren't killed. This is because the frozen mass of cells is surrounded by the patient's warm body, which tries to thaw it. My professor wants to see if applying controlled electric pulses, in addition to the freezing treatment, will completely kill the cancer.

He really liked the design and the sizes of everything, so we're gonna start working with cancer cells starting this Friday. I'm telling all my friends that I'm playing with prostate cancer and leukemia-before I kick their asses. Not my friends' asses. The cancer cells'. I reallllly hate cancer.

I could also potentially have a job with NASA this summer. Wish me luck.

BART happenings

Usually the ride back on bart is pretty uneventful; if I come back late I can't sit and do work or anything so I'm stuck looking at (mostly) the exhausted and depressed faces of other riders who wish they had better jobs, lives, etc...And people wonder why I'm in such a bad mood when I come home from school.

I thought it was gonna be same ol' same ol' today when I got on the Fremont train, but at the Rockridge stop, some guy got on that looked like Snoop Dog. No joke. I wish I had my camera on me or something. Then when I transferred at MacArthur and got on the Concord train, there was this guy that looked like Martin Yan from "Yan Can Cook!" That's when I really wish I had brought my camera to school. Lesson learned.

Finally, when I got off at Lafayette, I saw some old asian lady pick a ginormous booger out of her nose and smear it on the side of the car, just below the window. I don't think anyone else noticed cuz all the people around her were sleeping/rockin out to their iPods. I was pretty grossed out tho. So basically, instead of watching the normal depressing BART scene I was amused, amused, and disgusted. Third time is not always a charm.

Imma go wash my hands now.

Good Advice

"Don't get off the bus,"
She said. "Why?" I questioned her.
"The road is lava."

Limerick Wednesday

Holly's Bad Decision

Holly ate at Taco Bell.
It didn't sit so well.
'Cuz everytime she danced a jig
A fart she would expel.

She tried to hold it in all day,
But 'twas to no avail.
For everywhere she went that day
She left a smelly trail.

What happened last was even worse;
It's just too gross to tell.
So people, learn from Holly now,
"No quiero Taco Bell."

It's too hard to study right now. Wasting time is much more fun than fluid mechanics.
