CoOL...

My cuz from Reno got these salt and pepper shakers from Thailand, and I thought they were pretty cool in that weird way:

AND. They hug, too, so you've got functionality and anti-racism appeal!

Freaky Friday

I had a pretty late night yesterday because I was taking care of some stuff I put off--taxes, FAFSA, resume for an upcoming career fair, looking at summer internship sites (yeah, I have a pretty lame life)--and I figured that I could sleep in today and be late to church.

God had other plans.

I woke up at 8 (8:06, to be exact--I remember because I looked at those evil red lights on my alarm clock and was pretty pissed) to my mom yakking in the garbage can. I went out to see what was up, hoping to God it wasn't food poisoning because we had the same thing for dinner last night. That's the last thing I need right now. Luckily, it wasn't because I didn't feel sick at all, so I was sent to the store to get some ginger ale and gatorade. I got back at 8:21, still half asleep, fed my dog, and went back to bed until 10, when I usually wake up. Then I rushed to church.

When I got back, my mom still wasn't able to keep anything down, which was kinda scary because it was 4 hours later. I called the Kaiser advice nurse, who told me what to do and set up an appointment for the afternoon. Apparently, you're not supposed to drink a lot right after you vomit. You're supposed to wait an hour and then slowly take sips every five minutes until you can keep it down. I always drink a whole lot of water cuz I think I'm gonna be dehydrated.

It came around to the appointment time and she still wasn't doing any better, so I lined the car washing bucket with trash bags, brought it to the car along with an umbrella, and took my mom to the doctor. I actually had to get a wheelchair for her which is big cuz anyone who knows my mom knows she wouldn't be caught dead in a wheelchair unless she felt like she was dying. She's the lady at the gym who goes 100 miles an hour on a treadmill at the steepest incline and doesn't break a sweat. Anyway, we got to the doctor who was pretty cool, and it turns out that my mom only has a severe case of vertigo, which isn't contagious (PHEW!). A nurse gave her a phenergan shot in her buttcheek which made me laugh because I thought that only happened in movies for kicks. After the appointment, I wheelchaired her back to the car, went to the pharmacy to get her drugs, and drove home.

I settled down, and it was right when I was making Jello and porridge for her when I realized, "Crap. When did I learn how to do all this?" I mean, it's not a big deal, it's just that I never really saw myself doing for my parents what my parents do for their parents or for us. Freaky friday.

I don't wanna grow up.

Sleeping to dream...about school?

The back-to-school "nightmares" started again. The one I had last night was new, though--usually I just dream about stupid things like not being able to find, or get to, my classes. Or there's that rarer, but more hilarious one where I have to take a dump but am not allowed to leave the classroom. Actually, I used to get that one a lot when I was in elementary school.

Here's what I remember (I totally should have posted it this morning when it was still fresh, but I woke up late and had a busy day): I was meeting my professor (don't remember what he looked like in the dream) for an interview for a research project with him. Everything went well, but he got a call at the end of the interview and left the room. As he left, some guy in a white coat came in and said that I had to take a test to see if I was qualified or something like that. I remember thinking, "this was weird," but going along with it because I figured it was a written test and I'd be okay. We went to another room and he gave me a vaccination for hepatitis 4 (I know, right? What the hell?!?) and drew some blood. That's when I woke up. Aiyayai. Funny thing is, I'm actually more fascinated that these things go on in my head than creeped out.

Why am I so weird?

Currently addicted to...

Yelp.com and grapefruit. The second one is big for me because I usually don't eat fruit. That's all.

Saturday

Saturday Highlights:
1) My sister got some hair from a beauty supply store to make a wig or something. No, she doesn't have cancer--she just got a haircut a while back and misses long hair. Anyway, it was real human hair from a chick in India, and it really creeped me out. Especially when she touched me with it and did this:

I dunno. It just reminds me of that Simpsons episode where Homer gets a hair transplant, but he doesn't know that it's hair from Snake, who has been executed after Bart rats him out to the cops after he robs Apu or something. Anyway, the hair possesses Homer, who murders all the people involved in Snake's capture/execution.

2)That's me making sushi, which explains why I don't look freaked out. And which also brings me to my next highlight. I made California Rolls! This is how they turned out:

JUST KIDDING!!! haha...Those are the end pieces. This is the real picture:

I'm in the middle of writing a personal statement right now, so I had to make this quick and I left out a lot of crap. Why is it so much easier to post here than to write this verdammt thing? Ugh.

Best of both worlds

I think I've had a pretty full winter break so far. I spent a week in SoCal and chilled with friends/went to the beach, and then I visited my cousins in Reno this weekend. Yep...we were crazy enough to drive in this winter storm, but we had a Jeep and went 30 miles an hour at the icy parts so it wasn't so bad. I think I was a little overprepared though...To the point where I brought a 9-volt battery and some steel wool. Yeah, I know.

This is what the jeep looked like after one of the drives. And that's not even the worst it got.

It was pretty sweet though because I got to see falling snow for the first time that I can remember (here's a short, terrible quality clip that I took),

Eat a ton of seafood and prime rib (these are rounds one and two of about four, plus dessert),

and best of all, be with family.

I gotta put something beach-related in this post, so here's a clip I took of a running bird on the beach. I dunno why, but these birds make me laugh.

I used to think that there was nothing better than the sun and sand, but snow is giving the beach a run for its money.
